After having one beginner patterned table runner under my belt, I fell in love with quilting and immediately set my sights on more difficult projects. Rose's first year consisted of a deep love for nature, farms, and all sorts of animals. She had a favorite cloth book called Busy Farm that she read every single night. This book single-handedly encouraged her love in all things farm animals, and many of our toys, clothes, and books in her first year revolved around this love. We had planned a farm themed birthday for her and I knew I wanted to gift her this chicken quilt for the occasion, as well as have it for my own memories that captured the little girl that she was her very first year. This one will always be special to me because it felt like my first real quilt, as well as a transition into patterned quilting that I was afraid to try for many years due to lack of knowledge or skill. So here's an encouragement to dive into that interest of yours, especially when there's a world of resources at your fingertips!
